The Jaguar XJS is a luxury grand tourer produced by Jaguar from 1975. The XJS replaced the legendary E Type (or XKE) and was based on the XJ saloon.
The Jaguar XJS definitely had its critics over the years (mainly it would seem because it was the car that replaced the E Type). However, the XJS was a competent grand tourer, and is actually more aerodynamic than the E Type.
When the H.E. (High Efficiency) model was launched in 1981 the Jaguar XJS became the fastest automatic transmission car in the world at 155 mph.
Even though the flying buttress design came under fire at the time, the XJS still made guest appearances in 'The New Avengers', 'The Return of the Saint' and 'The Equalizer', making it both an icon of its age and distinctive enough to still be extremely popular today.
The last XJS was produced on 4 April 1996, with the XK8 taking its place. |
